TechTV Reunion?
I don't want to be a tease, but there's some interest in putting together a TechTV reunion show for the net. Many of the TechTV hosts have said they'd participate, including Kate Botello. Kris Kosach, Chris Pirillo, and Jim Louderback. Martin Sargent has offered to host it. I know we could get all the TWiTs involved.
There are quite a few more people I'd love to see again. And I think there are a few people who would watch. I'm thinking that May 7, 2007, the ninth anniversary of the channel, would be a nice date.
We need to find a sponsor and a host. Is there someone with deep pockets out there who would like to help us put this together?
I almost hate to say it but the best people to do this would be G4 - they own the rights to all the clips, and frankly I think it would get better ratings than anything they've run in the last two years. Hmm. There goes that idea.

Martin Sargent hosting and you want a corporate sponsor? Best of luck with that!! I'd love to contribute but would you take a post dated, out of state, third party check?
A reunion would be a great idea.
Since TechTV never really had a proper end (it kind of just grinded into the asphault that is G4), it would be kind of like giving it a proper burial as well.
This needs to happen so we can find out who shot JR...err..sorry wrong tv show.
As a long time fan, this needs to happen...
I wish I could help D=
but I would love to participate!
No deep pockets, but certainly a deep interest in seeing this! I think it is a given that many fans would love to see this happen. I'd personally would like to hear some fun "back stage" stories, plus lot's of "what are you up to now" stuff, followed by a discussion about how the spirit of TechTV hasn't died, and lives on in TWiT, DL.TV, Revision3, etc. You know, "where are we heading" kind of stuff.
Sarah, Jessica, Megan, Morgan, Adam, Kevin, Dan, Yoshi, Chris Leary, and Joshua better be involved too! :-)
I'll try to get the word out to people as a way of helping... It's been posted to Digg so maybe someone with a connection will pick up on it now :)
Leo I would say this is a great idea ... would be great to see what everyone is up to. It would be an easy medium for them to "advertise" any projects they are working on. Now I know this might not be doable but why not setup a donation bin for the TechTV reunion and see if anyone will sponsor it as well. That way you have funding from both places and the donation could be a backup place if the sponsor can't sponsor what is being asked.
I would rather see you host Leo. You were the figurehead of the channel. Martin is great but never had as big of a impact and your hosting abilities are better.
I love the idea! Although, I would perfer to see the TSS cast come together as a group of Hosts instead of just Martin. Not that I dont like Martin, he was a major contribution to TechTV. I just wish it would be more centered on what TechTV really means to everyone. I cant wait for that day in May, I wish it was closer!
So do it at G4 Media, they have all the clips and they have a studio. What do you have to lose? Besides your dignity ;-) ? It sounds fun, if they're willing to go for it, cool.
I'd settle for a reunion, but I sure would love to see the show back. I really miss Screen Savers!
Sarah and Brendan would be back by then... so they would be cool. Hrmm... maybe if you just didn't use the name "TechTV" it could happen.
thats sounds like an AWESOME idea , hmm ...
The guys at macbreak have got some good equipment maybe you could ask them ?
I hope this flies. I was a Screen Savers fan since it was The Site on MSNBC. We know what Kevin, Patrick and Leo have been up to, but would love to see everyone (including all the Tech-babes) back together.
ha, Brian's post is now on the front page (of digg)! Kudos, Brian. Also, are the Call for Help Canadians going to be involved? Or strictly the old school TTV guys (and girls...)?
Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god.
this is so cool, you should total do it
geeze this would be amazing.
Why not test the waters and do a special TWiT episode with as many of the gang as you can round up? Perhaps that could draw some interest and possible sponsorship to pull it off on G4.
Kick Bum! That would be rather nice wouldn't it? :) I'm very British I am
This is going to be awesome :) I hope it happens. Long live old school TechTV through Twit, DLtv and digg.
I miss The Screen Savers!
This is a fantastic idea! You should make this available to a public audience! I would travel far just to see this. Especially since you're planning in May 07, it's a good time to travel.
Although I wish I could donate my funds to help, I'm afraid I lack that amount at this time.
You should include Cat Schwartz, Morgan Webb, Adam Sessler, Silicon Allie, along with anybody else that has ever been a star on TechTV!
You you should also buy the old TechTV building and host this get together where CFH was.
Leo, to be frank, why put it on a channel that brutly ripped apart a great network?
My suggestion is do a video special for TWiT.tv, and try to get all the TechTV faces back for just an hour or two long roundtable about everyone's experiences at TechTV. I'm no legal expert but I think that is passable.
If it airs on G4, I'll still watch but it just feels like your feeding the beast that ate you.
My $0.02

Why can't there be away of doing a Screen Savers Video podcast? I know people would subscribe. I know I would. I hear so many people say they miss TSS.
Also Leo we need a Windows Tip Video Podcast. Or maybe a Call for Help type show.
Leo,
I think it's a great idea. Please remember to include Darci Woods and maybe you can have Kevin Mitnick as a special guest. I'm sure he would help you drive interest way up also...
Good luck.
Woohoo! I would *love* to see a TechTV reunion. I'm not sure one reunion show would be enough though. I'd love to see the channel "rebuilt" via vlogging or something. ;)
I'll chime in - what a great idea! A show, website, podcast, vidcast... anything you can do would make us all very happy :)
This idea is starting roll along. I read this on Chris Prillo's website:
"Looks like Leo may have let loose the flood gates: TechTV Reunion? It’s possible. I think it’s very possible. In fact, I’ll go as far as to say that I want to help make it happen. I think we could make a good go of the idea on the ‘Net before taking it to a television studio - unless, of course, there’s a studio out there that understands just how much TechTV helped both technophiles and technophobes. That’s one idea.
I’m thinking we could do something a bit more permanent (at least, online). I believe the community can bring the idea of “TechTV” back to life. What we’ll need, of course, is YOUR HELP.
For starters, I’m looking for a centralized site where TechTV Alumni could log in, post a video via Flash controls, then have their recordings indexed (tagged? syndicated?) and streamed on-demand. There’s probably an open source app I’m not seeing at the moment, but if any of the TechTV faithful can help… we’re all ears. It could be a TechTV Variety video site - but can the community build it for us to use? We could likely do this through a video portal, but… I think a TechTV community-controlled (or directed) solution is the big win.
Until then, I’m going to knock on a few more doors to see if I can generate genuine interest - for sponsors and/or studios."
This sounds like a great idea. I used to watch the show, almost religiously, so I'd definitely like a reunion to happen. Best of luck, Leo.
Please do it! I would love to see TechTV again. I miss it!
Really miss all the shows and all you guys. I was pointed to this post from Chris Pirillo's blog - he's enthused - so there really could be some steam behind this. I'll certainly pass the word along to see who might be able to contribute...
Oh how I've missed TechTV. For me it was must watch. I hope you can put something together!!!
That would be great! I used to love watching that show. Probably the only show I watched on TechTV :)
Ya - would be cool.
If you want corporate sponsorship / network television exposure perhaps Soledad O'Brien would be a candidate for the reunion's host.
With her roots in the precursor to TSS and her name recognition, Solidad's involvement might be the ticket to getting a big time sponsor and some television rather than internet broadcast interest.
Kate Botello AND Kris Kosach! I really miss seeing those two. Kate made Extended Play great. Kris Kosach was fun to watch and I loved her voice. Man I really miss that channel.
How do i make this short and sweet and try to get your atention so you will contact me. well i think i might have just did.
My name is Russell Harrower one of the owners of a new website called QipCast, What i mean is QipCast is owned by Queer Entertainment Pty Ltd which is owned by Myself and Peter. My other half, I have designed i site that i like to think is the future of Television Entertainment. QipCast offer users the ability to watch TV listen to Radio and play Games and much more on there computer. When i read your post and chris pirillo's blog at http://chris.pirillo.com/2006/07/24/techtv-rebuilt-by-community/ i decided to write to both of you, i wrote to him but i don't know if he checks them first or what as i can see it, any way,
When i heard that you two or maybe it was him wanted to bring back Tech TV. I wanted to be involed in anyway possible, From what i was guessing from what i have read is that you where looking at something that would broadcast 24/7. As a site that deals with IPTV stations i see away we can work together even knowning we are based in sunny Western Australia. I have set many things up in my small life like radio stations and IPTV stations and so on. So i see my self as a handy man in the IT world. I would like to offer you guys if you guys are still going to do this is an nonactive or active Channel for the reunion. an Active channel is a channel that has many channels on it it mean you send out 4 streams of different views. and you may have many cams connected to that one computer. i have done this with up to 10 computers but in that case it was for our company and we had 10 internet lines. Know i am not offering to set it up for you what i am offering is that QipCast.com gives you a channel for that day that is Active or nonactive. If you guys want to run this 24/7 and make a station perminite we would be more then happy to add your TV station to our List. At this time we don't have any tech TV stations as i can not find any online.
Please feel free to contact me ill also email this to you.
Thanks
Russell Harrower
