Technology Without An Interesting Name
The discussion of a TechTV reunion has spawned something else. The reunion is still in the works, but this might be even more exciting, and long term.
Naturally we got a lot of interest from companies wanting to host the reunion. We're still sifting through the offers. But one company came up with something really surprising that they've been developing behind the scenes for some time.
Chris Pirillo and I think this new platform just might make it possible to create an Internet-based TechTV.
It's kind of hard to describe the site. It's sort of a dedicated YouTube which would make it easy for all the old TechTV contributors (and fans) to create and distribute text, audio, and video. It would be a centralized place to get all the content that TechTV folks have been creating. Chris has committed his stuff. I'll put everything from TWiT there (and a lot more). And we're hoping to get all the former TechTV people, and friends and relations like Command-N, Lab Rats, and Hak.5, to use the site as a hub. We're not talking about a place to post old TechTV clips. We're really thinking about creating a new, web-based, TechTV. And making it easy for old TechTV-ers to create and post new stuff.
We just need a name. The site is almost ready to go. We have a bandwidth committment. I think by the end of the year we might be able to go public with something really amazing. Chris and I would love to kick it off with a Helpathon. What do you think?

I have a suggestion for a name. How about TechIP ? Since TechTV was on TV, you can call it TechIP since it will be on the Internet. Let me know if I can help.

Also twit.tv ( the wonder is tech.tv == twit.tv ) was a GREAT idea. I would LOVE to see either of those used.

You could even do live streaming show a'la Call For Help (caller webcam intergration?)
Can't go for a name that's anything TWIT centric or any of the alumni's individual brands, and TechTV's brand is tainted. How about something as a nod to your pioneering programing past?

Well, obviously seeing the name "Leo Laporte" and technology online at a site that I'm learning my way through naturally inspires a lot of hope. Before the confusion with the interregnum between the "old" and new technology channels (TechTV to GWhy?), I had mentioned an idea of a LeoMedia Inc (or something to that effect) in Leoville--the idea that you and Chris are bringing shows online (along with your regular informative sites) is very promising. I've given up on Comcast's efforts in this area, so Leo, I wish you a lot of luck. I know that it will work.
I get all of my information and entertainment online, so if both you and Chris put together a good package (it goes without saying that you both will), I'm anxious to see it come to fruition.
I do hope that you are dodging the craptacular weather in TO.

I want to see more interaction between the fans and you guys for the possibilities of pitching ideas and pilots to become new shows.
I mean honestly it would be cool if I came up with an idea and became the youngest in the tech tv crew, or if anyone came up with an idea and joined into a group of people who provide excellent tech shows.
Or more than that.

I am a member of LLTTV and we have been making afew names up and I like TiT, this is tech or Tech is This,But that is what we have made up so far..

This both excites me and makes me think. There is alot of power in a gathering of creative minds as long as the soul and heart of the original work stays the same. Podshow has tryed this and in my opinion faild badly. I dunno though it seems like everyones heart is in the right place atleast.
