The one we want to take home is the black-faced one Jennifer picks up in this video. If we do take him home this will probably be the first of many videos.
My sister has a papillon named Aramis (she wanted a French name that sounded macho) that she adores.
According to her they're the smartest of the toy breeds, and since she's the one with the degree in Animal Science from Penn State I'm taking her word for it. He really is a smart dog, and took pretty well to his training.
They are great looking dogs, and, at first, i wondered what they reminded me of. Then it came to me: Gremlins. Be careful how you handle the mogwai! And have fun.
Papillons are supposed to be absolutely wonderful companion dogs: friendly, smart, very driven to be helpful and interact with people. It doesn't hurt that they're cute as hell. :)
Pappillons are a GREAT breed! My wife and I have 2 of them... Mojo and Stewie. We love the little guys!!!
Joe is a little large for the standard, but he is such a happy guy. And he has SUPER-LARGE ears!!! http://tomit.vox.com/library/photo/6a00c225200c8c549d00c22529aaae604a.html
Stew is the small guy, but he thinks he is tough! And he has one ear that won't stand up all of the time. http://tomit.vox.com/library/photo/6a00c225200c8c549d00c2252a9b188e1d.html
And here are some more pics of the boys... http://farm1.static.flickr.com/85/271983291_a14b8ee61a.jpg http://farm1.static.flickr.com/90/271983999_d27e1ef07b.jpg http://farm1.static.flickr.com/39/84273055_de3afba0b7.jpg http://farm1.static.flickr.com/44/170055047_7b6deb87fe.jpg http://farm1.static.flickr.com/74/170055046_456cc7cd72.jpg
I had papillons when I was a kid and they are a fantastic breed - fiercely protective once they bond with the family, and if you're lucky they will bond with the whole family, not just one member like mine did - no-one could get near me when she was around (which had certain advantages !!).
One thing I vaguely remember, and this would have to be confirmed by a vet, but I seem to remember that they have a genetic disposition towards hip dysplasia in later life - nothing that can';t be treated with the appropriate meds...
Dunno about Henry, but Abby will love it... Just remember to tell her that they need to be played with a lot, especially as puppies, and that they love sleeping on the bed next to you...
As a long time fan who watched you religiously on TechTV and even sent in for the Kate and Leo autographed picture, I must commend you on your choice of dog. Papillons Rule! I discovered them in 1996 and our lives have never been the same, lol! They are smart dogs, great companions, and very athletic. Have a look at a website I created, http://www.lotekipapillons.com if you get a chance. This is the home of the breeder of the only Papillon to ever win the famed Westminster Kennel Club show in NYC. I have two Loteki Papillons, Maddux (named after Greg) and Paige, who are sisters. I also have several others and have run a Papillon email group for 10 years. http://www.papfriends.com
Just make sure your Papillon comes from a good breeder and not someone breeding them in order to make money.
Congrats again and I look forward to watching your little Butterfly grow up!
I have never had one but one of my friends had one and I can verify that it was the smartest dog I had ever seen. I was visiting and she had toys all over the living room floor and she put them away in his very large toy box. She then told me to tell Gizmo to get a certain toy...I said "Gizmo get the Snake" and the little booger ran to the toy box and got in it and jumped out with that darn snake it its mouth!!!! I thought it was a fluke so I returned the snake and asked him to get the Teddy Bear and it retrieved it. This was just about one of the oodles of tricks this dog did. She moved away about seven years ago and to this day I remember that little dog and his name.
