Made It
I grew up in Providence, Rhode Island, only about an hour from Fenway. I was a Red Sox fan, of course, but I don't think we went to Fenway Park more than once or twice. It was really fun to go back, even though it was 95 degrees at game time - and muggy as hell.
Even the field needed cooling off. I think a lot of people were tempted to run on the field for a hose down.
Some things never change at the park. I remember these Jimmy Fund boxes from forty years ago. Money raised goes to the Dana Farber Cancer institute. Coincidentally we've got an interview with a researcher from Dana Farber coming up on Futures in Biotech.
Fenway is 94 years old - the oldest major league ball park - and it shows. There's a lot of "character" there. These steps have the veneer of 94 years of hot dog wrappers, spilled beer, and peanut shells. They smell kind of funky , too. But it's a great place to see a ball game.
By the way, Sox won, throwing a combined one hitter to beat the Royals 1-0.

I'd watch out- you might need express written permission from Major League Baseball to post this picture here.
They're better than the New York Mets... pretty much any team is ;-)
Funny story from a game I attended at Fenway...
So we're sitting there, my father next to me. I wish a foul ball will come to us, and luckily one does, right into our laps, literally. My father though, had his camera in hand, and a fan behind us snatched it.
We think, oh well, a missed oppourtunity, knowing our chances of catching another were zero.
Then later, another one, right in the same place, and this time, my father has a banana in his hand, and again, we are robbed.
Oh Fenway, thanks for the memories.
My first World Series as a kid was the '67 series between the Sox and the Cardinals. This made the 2004 Series twice as sweet.
I would love to go to Fenway someday, but so far I haven't even made it to Massachusetts, let alone Boston.
There's nothing quite like going to MLB game. Even if you're not a big baseball fan, you've got to go to a game sometime and experience the park, the sights, the sounds, the smells, etc. I'd love to make my way up to Fenway sometime and check it out. It does have a lot of "character" as you put it. :)
Heat index of 115 here in the Midwest. Seems like the entire nation is suffering from the heat wave. :-)
I've not yet had the chance to visit the east coast but hope to someday. I have been to a slew of games in Anaheim however, and theres just something about going to the stadium, hearing the roar of the crowd, the smell of the peanuts and hot dogs, and that sound the bat makes that can be heard from the top bleacher that makes the sweltering heat bareable. Speaking of upcoming FOBT's how about what's next for ITN?
I'm a ol' L.A. Dodgers fan - how do you spell Billy Bucks! ouch. Nice blog Leo. Take care, DY
Now how about a TWiT in Boston?
Good photos and nice post, Leo. By the way, they always water the dirt down before games. Dirt that is too dry (or wet) will lead to injuries. Also, it blows around more when it's dry.
I get to go to a twins game on August 1st and sit in the first row above the twins dugout... I can't wait!
