Be Mine
Happy Valentine's Day. These looked so good at my local bakery that I just had to snap them. (I didn't eat them, though - I'm on a strict diet for the launch of the Lab.)
I'm back from vacation. I had to jump ship on the Geek Cruise to handle an urgent family matter (all's well now - nothing to worry about) but I decided to use the empty block of time to relax. I've got a new radio show and a new TV show launching this month, so this might be the last time off for a while.
During the break I caught up on some movies and TV. I just saw the Studio 60 Christmas episode and I think it might be the best, most satisfying, television show I've ever seen. If you've missed this NBC series from Aaron Sorkin of West Wing fame, you probably should see the first 10 episodes to set up episode 11. I often despair about the state of television, but when it's good, it's better than any other medium. It's both inspiring and terrifying (well, for someone who aspires to do good TV, that is).
Vacation ends today. Amber and I will be back with a new net@nite live via Talkshoe tomorrow at 9p Eastern (0200 GMT) and a brand new TWiT is going up at one minute past midnight Monday morning (I'm holding it a little longer than usual because Dvorak revealed some news that's embargoed until then). I also have a new FLOSS Weekly and this WEEK in LAW to post this week. Monday I'll post a visit to the actual Gadget Warehouse, recorded when I was with Dick DeBartolo in Manhattan last week.
Before I left on vacation I had a great conversation with the people at Vox. I've been looking for a web backend for the new Tech Guy radio show. The wiki I'm using now just doesn't offer the social networking features I'm looking for. Thanks to Anil Dash and the folks at Six Apart I think I'm moving to Movable Type /Typepad (not sure which right now) with a new design from Apperceptive. We'll continue to use the wiki until that's done.
I'm also commissioning a theme song from the great Ashley Witt. Ash has done so many of the TWiT themes including Doin' the TWiT.
The show launches in one week - I'll have a final list of affiliates soon.

Also, if you think that episode was satisfying, than check out Season 1 and 2 of West Wing (now on iTunes). These kinds of feel good or fufiling episodes were numerous.
I hope your new TV and Radio show works out, I'm sure moveable type will fit your needs, but as an OSS guy - you should look at Automattic's Wordpress Consulting
Glad all is now well, Leo, and that you're getting a little bit of rest -- looks like you're going to need it with everything that's about to hatch.
I hope moving to typepad /moveable type is a smooth one. Good luck with all your new stuff. Of course this means there are just more ways for us wannabe's/wishwecouldbe's to catch you. Thanks for that.
Take care.
Welcome back, Leo. I am glad the emergency was not serious. I hope you enjoyed the down time. Best wishes with the new TV and Radio shows.
This week is gonna be super busy for you, but do take time out on Wednesday for your wife and daughter. Be their Valentine's!
Cheers,
Michael J. Titera
Best of luck on the new launches! I've e-mailed the talk radio stations in both Boston and Providence with hopes they will give you a whirl. I'm sure you know Boston is a big radio market, I think 8th but I could be wrong, and we are a heavy tech area so I have all appendages crossed.
Sorry to hear about the Geek Cruise cancellation. Hope that all is well with yourself and your family.
About the theme music, I enjoyed Ashley Witt's music from current and previous intros/closings so I'm sure she can come up with some great new music for your new shows. Good luck with the new shows, looking forward to hearing/seeing the new Netcasts.
